Fashion
Fashion
Ever since the Antwerp Six made their mark in the mid-1980s, fashion has played a central part in the city. There is a fashion 'museum', really more of an exhibition space, that hosts two five-month long exhibitions per year and plenty of boutiques in which to view the local talent - just take a walk down Nationalestraat and you will find Garde-robe nationale, Het Modepaleis and Veronique Branquinho, to name but a few.
Central station & surrounds
Central Station & Surrounds
Antwerp's main train station is a striking early 20th century building that has just undergone a thorough modernisation; nearby you will find the Zoo, the largest in Belgium and one of the oldest in Europe (opened 1843), where locals come for quiet walks and to admire the original architecture, as well as the Diamond Museum.
Plantin-Moretus museum
Plantin-Moretus Museum
Close to the heart of the city, this gem is Antwerp's finest museum and, to date, the only museum ever to be put on UNESCO's world heritage list. The former home of printing pioneer Christophe Plantin, it is a huge 16th century house that tells as much about how families lived at that time through its exquisite architecture, interiors and decorative arts, as it does about early printing. A rare copy of the Gutenberg Bible is on display.
